The Curiosity Approach

The School Without Toys

At Gill Blowers we are passionate about inspiring our children to be the ‘thinkers and doers’ of the future.

The key driver and focus of our environment and curriculum is to foster curiosity and investigation which in turn develops children’s involvement and engagement in their learning. Bringing curiosity, awe and wonder into early childhood.  It is a modern day approach to Early Childhood, taking parts from Reggio, Steiner, Te Whāriki and Montessori.

We have reflected on our current practice and standards, to provide an environment with authentic resources, recycled materials and loose parts that inspire children with open-ended learning opportunities.

We asked ourselves questions such as: Are we inspired to play, tinker, linger and explore? Is it too noisy, cluttered and over stimulating? Does the environment feel homely, inviting and not institutionalised? Do we have aspects of nature within our setting? Are resources easily accessible and thoughtfully presented? Are there opportunities to access authentic resources, loose parts and recycled materials? Do our environments encourage children to learn how to think, not what to think?

We hope that you can help us along our journey by saving any of the following recycled materials and loose parts:
